Turner hired us for content creation and social coverage at the SAG Awards — and my beat was the red carpet with an iPhone. Run-and-gun was home turf: celebrities and pro athletes read the same way. You make quick decisions off the energy the talent gives you. This was peak This Is Us, and the word was: focus there. So instead of the standard one-on-one shoutout, I pitched the publicists for Sterling K. Brown and Justin Hartley on getting the adult and child versions of the characters on camera together. They loved it. The "big and little" bit loosened the whole carpet, drew a crowd, and made every ask after it easier. Then I played the long game: I stayed in the wings through the show. When Sterling K. Brown became the first Black man to win Best Male Actor in a Drama Series, his publicist remembered me — and waved me past the entire press horde for the first interview off the stage.
